Gateway to America: World Trade Center Memorial Edition
Published in Paperback by Plexus Publishing (March, 2003)
Average review score:

An enjoyable and highly recommended history and guideBased on the PBS documentary, Gordon Bishop's Gateway To America is both a guidebook and a history of the New York/New Jersey triangle that was the chief entry point for America's immigration wave in the 19th and 20th centuries. Fun facts and insights into the past fill the pages of this informatively written account, one which examines The Statue of Liberty, Battery City Park, South Street Seaport, remembers the World Trade Center and commiserates with the victims of the September 11th attacks. Color photographs by Jerzy Koss enhance this enjoyable and highly recommended history and guide.

Gentlemen from England (Borealis Books)
Published in Paperback by Minnesota Historical Society (October, 1993)
Average review score:

if you like Betsy.....I got this book on a whim, just because I love the Betsy-Tacy books, and figured that since those are autobiographical, then this would be what "Betsy" would have written. It is a good book- it tells the story of a misguided but sweet young man from England who jouneys to America to make a new life for himself. He encounters two extremely gothic characters who give the book an interesting twist, and has a passionate love affair. Through all his mishaps and passions, he finally discovers himself- and happiness- in a transported world of foxhunts, balls, and estates that must soon conform to new customs or perish. If you like the Betsy books, you will probably like this- it is an adult book, but still captures the youthful spirit and vibrance of the Betsy series. Lovelace writes with heart, taking the reader into her world.

Average review score:

Outstanding book of knowledgeThis is a great book for a person that wants to learn about people and places in the world. The information is brought to the reader from an author that has an enormous practical life experience. Each chapter in the book completely leaves the reader with a sense of personal achievement. The author uses all the fields of Geography to explain the twelve realms of the world. The information is delivered in clear and concise English. The maps that were published in the book are very detailed and up to date. Overall this book opened up my eyes to the rest of the world. A job well done.

Geography: Realms, Regions, and Concept Eighth Edition and Student Study Guide to Accompany Geography: Realms, Regions, and Concepts Silver Anniversary
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (November, 1996)
Average review score:

Gives an excellent overall view of the worldI find this book and excellent source of information about various subjects in all countries/states of the world. I have repeatedly admired the people that have put all this together for their overview and ability to make things clear in few words. A great textbook!

Geology of Anza-Borrego: Edge of Creation (California Desert Natural History Field Guides, No 1)
Published in Paperback by Sunbelt Publications (January, 1993)
Average review score:

Excellent for the Non Geology ProfessionalThis was my first "geology" book, and found Paul's book to be well written, interesting, humorous at times, and has singularly sparked my own interest in paleontology, geology and the Anza Borrego Desert Region. In the two years since I read this, I've devoured many other books of similar vein, looking for the pleasure that this book brought. A great read and field guide.

Georgian Bay: An Illustrated History
Published in Hardcover by Boston Mills Press (April, 1995)
Average review score:

A wonderful trip through a fascinating period in History.Reading this account of History about the Georgian Bay area reminded me of many of the "oldtimers" I have met through the years on Manitoulin Island. I have been going there for 50 years and I have observed that a lot of this area has been standing still in time. Growth is very slow and rightly so, because of the inaccessibility of much of the land. The people I have met are true pioneers with the heart and spirit to match. They are hard-working people with a love of the land and a determination to make the most of what they have. We could all take a lesson from these people steeped richly in their heritage.

The Ghost of John Wayne and Other Stories (Camino Del Sol)
Published in Hardcover by University of Arizona Press (November, 1901)
Average review score:

Excellent StoriesThis book is a wonderful find. These are stories about the cultural experiences of many characters on both sides of the border. There are many different stories that made me think and want to revisit later. They can also be read as time permits. Highly recommended.

Ghost Sickness: A Book of Poems
Published in Paperback by Cinco Puntos Press (November, 1997)
Average review score:

Surreal journey of passage in the SouthwestI hate most poets, but I love out-of-whack word juxtapositioning and eerie language. This nugget of a book transported me into the movie "The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez" as it might have been directed by Luis Bunuel -- starring Neal Cassidy, and with additional dialogue by Jorge Luis Borges.

The Girl Who Dreamed Only Geese, and Other Tales of the Far North
Published in Hardcover by Harcourt Young Classics (September, 1997)
Average review score:

Brains and BeautyAside from the wonderfully told stories, this book is an exceptional example of bookmaking, from the white on white end pages to the frieze-like illustrations by the Dillons that tell the story along the top of the page. A great choice for a gift book.

Going Places With Children in Washington, D.C.
Published in Paperback by Green Acres School (April, 1995)
Average review score:

Great BookI can't say enough good things about this book. I live in the DC area and use this book on a daily basis in the summer. My only wish is that they would print an updated version. The book is easy to use and provides you with accurate and relevant information. It is chock full of ideas from day trips to ways to fill an hour or so. The information is indexed by place and type of activity so anything you wish to do is easily found. I live here and never knew there were so many fun, often free things to do.
